True Colours Shining Through

Published Wednesday, Jun 19 2002, 22:03 BST | By Dek Hogan
Nearly four weeks in captivity now and there?s no way anyone can keep up a front that long. Amid the tension, the posturing and the politics, we are finally seeing the contestants in their true light.

Coming off worse from this appears to be Adele. Everywhere I?ve been this week her name has been on everyone?s lips. Unfortunately for her it?s accompanied by the phrase ?two-faced?. I feel that?s a bit harsh. I?m charitable enough to feel that she tries too hard to be diplomatic at times. When clashing with a drunken Jade though, diplomacy went right out of the window in glorious fashion and the claws came out in style.

Let?s face it, four weeks stuck in a house with Jade would probably have given Mahatma Gandhi violent tendencies, not that she?d have heard of him, or so she?d have us believe. I?ve met a few dense people in my time but no one comes close to the level of ignorance displayed by this increasingly annoying woman. She obviously believes that her lack of knowledge and limited vocabulary are endearing. Maybe they were for five minutes but now they just grate.

Alex ?s well meaning rescue of the majority of the women from the poor side of the house has backfired in fine style. His despair at being caught in the middle of the Adele/Jade catfight was superb entertainment. E4 showing live coverage of his sulk, huddled alone under a duvet in the garden was to me inspired direction (for once). As for psychic Sophie, he?d probably have to hold a séance to connect with her.

Chinless wonder and spoilt little rich kid Tim has been placed in an awkward position but it?s fairly obvious that he will attempt to adopt a leadership role when he has settled in. For this reason, it would be marvellous if the anarchistic Spencer were to remain. The clashes would be superb.

I?m really miffed that we will have to lose either of this week?s nominees at this early stage, especially with Sophie safe for another fascinating week. Following the fall out from Saturday?s task, I can?t quite believe that PJ?s safe either.

His emotions really got the better of him when left on the poor side and his release of anger gave so much of an insight to his seemingly non too pleasant true self that none of his backtracking latter could repair the damage.

Jonny and Kate remain firmly on the same wavelength and have voted identically in each round nominations so far. However they are becoming less fun with each passing day. Jonny has now shed his court jester locks and is losing his naughty schoolboy image rapidly. Materialistic Kate is faring far better in the poor side than I ever would have given her credit for, her lowest moment being caused by morons shouting abuse into the compound.

All the housemates have affected by these intrusions from outside, which must call security and the design of the set into question. I know they suffer similar problems at Bow but not to the extent seen at Elstree. Perhaps it?s the Slater family from Albert Square, miffed that Big Brother is keeping them off the front pages.
