Don't look back in anger

Well it?s been fun and all but I?m sad to report that this will be the final Hogan on the House of Big Brother 4.

A big thanks to everyone who has contacted me during the current run. Thankfully there have been more bouquets than brickbats, but I genuinely do appreciate all comments, even the one?s from the most ardent Tickle supporters. It?s been fun.

For my last hurrah, I thought I?d give my reassessment of all thirteen housemates with the benefit of hindsight.

Anouska: The instant dislike I?d taken to the woman on night one didn?t last long. The early eviction of one of the house?s most entertaining characters was definitely to the detriment of this year?s show. Her subsequent antics in Australia have given us a taste of what we?ve missed. Shame.

Justine: If thousands of people entered this gig and Justine was in the top twenty, it doesn?t say much for the rejects. Either the real Justine just didn?t come across or she really is dull. Despite being a virtual squatter in the RI:SE studio since being turfed she has still failed to have any sort of impact on me. Lasting fame seems unlikely.

Sissy: I suppose you?ve got to have a chain-smoking neurotic in any reality show, purely as a stereotype. My only problem with the lady was that her voice got on my nerves. As was pointed out by many of you at the time, that?s hardly fair.

Federico: I never could abide nutters and the more I?ve seen of Fed outside the house the more he?s come across as one. Perhaps he?s trying to create a media persona, I don?t know, but I?d rather spend an evening with Avid Merrion than this gent.

Jon: I was shocked at his departure and the conspiracy theories still abound. Hotel California remains my top moment from this year?s show though and I suppose I?ve got to love him for that. Hopefully, when we look back on the show, we?ll remember the geekish charm of the Jon that graced the house in the early weeks rather than the mean spirited stirrer who seems to take such delight in unnerving his former comrades as the show draws to a close.

Tania: I never took to her in the house and have found her far more bearable in her appearances outside.

Gos: It?s quite surprising that anyone could muster the passion to vote the chef out. He just never seemed to provoke much of a reaction, for or against. I suppose this begs the question, is nice entertaining. Answers on a postcard.

Lisa: Why?

Nush: Surely emotional maturity should be a prerequisite for entry into the house? Apparently not. She seemed to become more insecure and self obsessed as the weeks rolled by. Sad really.

Steph: All this time, I?ve been calling Scott the game player and Steph?s crocodile tears on Sunday prove to be the game-playing masterstroke. Her machiavellian plot has worked brilliantly, not only ensuring she stays until the end but the subsequent fall out showing a couple of her competitors in a bad light. Some of you spotted her little game weeks ago and I chose to ignore you. Sorry, looks like you were right all along.

Ray: What you get is what you see with Ray. I don?t always like what he does and he is unpleasant when drunk, but he is the only totally genuine person left and no mistake.

Cameron: A star and no mistake but eight weeks in and I don?t think we?ve scratched the surface of this guy. I like him but what lies beneath?

Scott: To me, from week one this has been the guy who is most obviously trying to win. He has a definite game plan and has only really been rattled when surprises such as Lisa and Jon have been pounced on them. Fair play to him, it?s been a quality job.

Overall then, on reflection I would like Ray to take the prize, even though I?m not his biggest fan. He?s always been up for fun but not in the forced way that made last year?s livelier housemates so irritating. He?s made no secret of the fact that he wants to win and there?s nothing wrong with that.

He won?t win of course and it?s looking close between Scott and Cam. The last lap could be very interesting.

So it?s goodbye from me as I head off on my sunny jolly hols.
