The 23-year-old, who was removed from the Big Brother house on Wednesday for threatening behaviour towards fellow housemates, is said to have links to the Peel Dem Crew.
An associate of Alex said that she converted to Islam 18 months ago in order to join the Brixton-based gang, which is also known as PDC.
The source said: "Alex is very well connected with the PDC gang. She drives a lot of gang members around town in her BMW."
The Poverty Driven Children gang (PDC), previously known as the Peel Dem Crew, is known for drugs, robberies and for carrying guns.
They were formed by Elijah Kerr, known as JaJa, who has since renounced crime, and have strong links with Birmingham's Burger Bar Boys.
It was previously revealed by the newspaper that Alex's boyfriend is serving time in Brixton prison, accused of murdering Gary Guthrie last October.
Alex's exit interview will be pre-recorded before tonight's live show, which will see her replaced with a new housemate.
