Channel 4 and the show's producers Endemol are said to be cooperating with police, according to a report in The Sun.
A spokeswoman for Channel 4 said: "We are aware that they are looking into the matter."
Meanwhile, a source from Borehamwood Police Station, near the Big Brother house, confirmed that spitting at someone classifies as common assault.
The source added: "We’ve been speaking back and forth to Big Brother and Endemol. The chief inspector is looking into it. We will look at the footage to see if any offence has been committed and we’ll take the appropriate action."
Dennis was removed from the house yesterday. If convicted, he could face a fine or six months in prison.
