DS:BB News Extra - Day 91 #2

Published Thursday, Sep 4 2008, 03:00 BST | By Catriona Wightman
The latest news snippets and gossip from the house...

  • Rex spent time teaching Rachel how to make cheese sauce as she admitted that the ready-made cheese sauce she used to use would always have red spots "like blood" in it. After she tasted Rex's version, she declared that it was "perfect", while Michael praised it and claimed that he could eat it on its own. Rachel joked that Rex would always think of her making the sauce on Friday and Saturday nights now. "I'm sure I'll spare a moment for you," Rex laughed. "I am actually going to think that now that you've just said that."

  • The housemates were excited to receive a Chinese takeaway. They had been given a voucher for the food with their shopping last week and chose to use it today. The group was ecstatic when they realised that they had also been given a bottle of champagne. "Big Brother, you're the best!" squealed Sara.

  • Darnell told the group about one of the songs he sings and raps on, and revealed that his friend might have released it while he was in the house. He added that he hoped it had been released, to prove that he had been involved in music before the show and that he wasn't just trying to get something out of it. Rex agreed that tactically it was best to release it while Darnell was still in the house, but Sara assured him that his friend would have done what was best for him.

  • Darnell revealed that he found it difficult to write songs on cue, describing himself as a "vibe artist". He explained that when he did write a song, it was as if the "hand of God" had touched him and they popped into his brain. Michael agreed that songs didn't come from the heart if written on demand, but Darnell sighed: "When you're doing it for a career, it usually doesn't. It's a skill, like any other job. I need to learn how to hone that skill."

  • Rachel told Michael that although she knows Luke and Rebecca don't like her, she would still like to get to know them in the outside world. She explained that she would like to keep in touch with everyone and added that she was glad she had sorted things out with Lisa.

  • Darnell suffered all night with his eye after hurting it on a plant. He was called out of bed to the Diary Room and returned later to ask for something for it. Big Brother assured him that he'd be given eye gel and would see a doctor in the morning. However, Darnell confessed that he was "scared" about seeing another person in the Diary Room. Rachel and Sara reassured him that the doctor was "cute" and nice, but he laughed: "The magical guy who lives in the Diary Room."

  • Rachel was chuffed that a moth had featured in the episode of Big Brother the group watched, as she wanted to know more about what species it was and whether Big Brother had put the moths in deliberately. "That's the highlight of my day," she grinned, causing Michael to admit that he liked her as she got excited about little things.

  • Rex admitted that he didn't know how many rooms there were in his house. "Gosh, it must be huge!" Rachel exclaimed. Rex went on to describe his home, explaining that there were listed paintings of Greek gods, panelled ceilings and marble columns. He added that it was designed by the famous architect Sir Gilbert Scott and was like a "museum".

  • Darnell explained the American jail system to Rex, before adding that he "never, ever" wanted to go to jail in London. Rex replied that holding cells "suck", complaining: "They ignore you for as long as they want." Darnell seemed unsurprised, but joked that he would happy to spend a night in a holding cell after getting drunk with his friends.

  • Rex asked Darnell about the Boston Tea Party, which Darnell explained to him. The songwriter went on to tell Rex about the American Revolution and the French influence on states like Louisiana.
