According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, one of the contestant's friends discovered the break-in when she went round to check on the flat.
A television, stereo and laptop have been taken, while paint has been splashed on the walls. A sofa was also reportedly slashed and left with the knife sticking out.
David's sister Leanne said: "It's a bit upsetting - you can only think whoever did this had seen him on TV and knew he wouldn't be around."
However, she added that the family is happy that David has reached the final.
"We're very proud of how he's done and hopefully loads of people from all over Yorkshire will be supporting him," she remarked.
West Yorkshire police confirmed that they had been called on Monday afternoon to a report of a burglary.
