Jade Goody's friend and former publicist Max Clifford has praised Big Brother bosses for their plans to support a cervical cancer charity.

Yesterday, it was announced that a slice of funds raised from the programme's phone votes will be donated to Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust in an apparent tribute to Goody, who lost a battle against the illness last year.

Responding to the news, Clifford told the Daily Star: "What greater tribute to Jade than this? She was Big Brother's biggest star and it's fitting that the show which made her a superstar should now do this.

"When she was diagnosed with cervical cancer she worked tirelessly to get the message out to other women to get screened. Jade's campaign has already helped save hundreds of women.

"And she would be enormously thrilled by the news that Big Brother is now helping her campaign. The more money raised, the more lives that can be saved. This is tremendous."

Goody rose to fame with a nine-week stint on Big Brother 3 in 2002. She went on to make a controversial appearance on Celebrity Big Brother five years later.

Kith & Kids and After Adoption are two more good causes which will benefit from this year's voting process.
