The group, who were initially part of 81 potential contestants lined up outside of the house, were revealed one-by-one in front of the nation.
Among the housemates are filmmaker Shabby, 29-year-old retail worker Corin, volunteer Govan, 40-year-old ex-serviceman Steve, professional dancer Ife, 22-year-old student Caoinhe and medical student Yvette, nicknamed Sunshine.
Completing this year's lineup are Australian retired vehicle body worker John, 39-year-old minister David, professional Beyoncé lookalike and hair stylist Rachael, financial sales rep Josie, trainee joiner Nathan, and writer and broadcaster Ben.
One further housemate, Mario, was chosen at random by a tombola draw to become 'Big Brother's Mole' and engage in a series of secret missions over the coming days to disrupt the lives of his fellow housemates.
If he succeeds in his mission and remains undetected, he will join as the 14th contestant. If he fails, he will have to leave the show.
His success will be hampered by having to dress in a mole suit and sleep inside a hole somewhere in the house.
