While showing Mario some jewellery given to her by her family, Sunshine recalled how her grandmother suffered a fatal heart attack just hours before the 24-year-old medical student was due to take an important examination.
Sunshine's uncle broke the news to her in the early hours after previously calling to describe symptoms her grandmother had been showing, which the housemate originally diagnosed as a minor case of pneumonia.
"They told me I had to take the exam," said Sunshine to a shocked Mario. "I did my exam crying and shaking... My gran's last wish, because she was in so much pain, was to call me and say, 'Good luck'. I had to pass it."
Sunshine revealed that she framed a good luck card and some money that her grandmother had sent to her before she passed away.
"I didn't get to say goodbye. One of my last conversations with her I was complaining… and my gran should have been able to see me after my exam when I was really happy."
Mario assured her that she was a "fighter" and that a lot of people would have "succumbed to depression and darkness" had they lost their mother and grandmother in quick succession as she had.
