The Australian heard the news after Josie had a series of talks with Rachel and Caoimhe this evening about the duo's earlier argument, where John James accused Josie of calling him "crab eyes".
Although Rachel told Josie that John James meant his apology "wholeheartedly", the Bristolian argued: "He's always like that. He's an emotional vampire, he's stealing my positive energy."
Later, when Josie claimed that John James "didn't care" about their argument, Caoimhe disagreed, stating: "He does, big time. He just wants to be your friend."
However it was when all housemates were locked in the bedroom awaiting the task reward that Josie surprised John James with her decision.
"You made me so angry last night I wanted to slip out - anyone who makes me that angry isn’t worth hanging out with in my eyes," she said.
"I don’t want to be horrible but I don’t want to be your friend again."
John James apologised and told Josie that he had asked Big Brother to swap his place for hers in the reward tonight as an apology.
However, Josie argued: "Yeah, to make yourself look good, you switch the night after eviction. I've gone in there every night saying what a great guy you are, and then you turn on me.
"You're just an embarrassment."
The normally assertive John James didn't argue with Josie, but explained that he was puzzled after they seemed on good terms earlier in the day.
"I've been civil to you, I wouldn’t be horrible to you. That’s just being civil," Josie said.
"I don’t know what to do," John James replied. "Josie, everyone makes mistakes and I'm sorry. I haven't argued with anything you've said.
"I can't do anything more than apologise. I admit that I'm in the wrong and you're in the right, but I want to be your mate."
Later, as John James was called into the kitchen along with David, Ife, Rachel, Keeley and Andrew, the group noticed that he was upset, but believed that it was because he felt guilty for having a treat without the others.
The Australian then called for the kitchen door to be unlocked and rushed to the Diary Room.
