Emerging from the Diary Room after talking through his feelings with Big Brother, he told Andrew and Rachel: "I asked them if they would just reverse the process and put me up for eviction instead."
He continued: "Saving myself isn't worth the pain it's caused... this gap between Dave and I now. I know he says that there are no hard feelings but there is... I really feel I've let him down. He is one of my good friends in here."
Later, David revealed that he was still struggling to come to terms with Mario's decision.
"There's no reason for him to put you up other than the reason he's given," Jo reassured him. "Other than if he thinks I nominated him this week..." he reasoned. "However people do it they've then got to live with the consequences. So you can't then get the hump when you ask people for their opinion and they don't agree with it."
He explained that he's finding it difficult to understand as he and Mario are good friends - and if he is evicted on Friday, Mario will have to remain in the house without him. "It's all a bit skew whiff as far as I'm concerned," he admitted.
