John James swallowed his pride and opted to dress up as a crab to take part in his section of the task this evening, prompting praise from his fellow housemates.

Earlier, the Australian had rejected the idea of wearing the outfit as he thought it was unfair given his dislike of the insulting nickname 'crab eyes'.

However, chatting in the garden, Sam confessed that he would think "so much better" of John James if he went and asked Big Brother if he could wear his crab costume after all.

Inspired to do the right thing, the 24-year-old headed to the Diary Room to ask Big Brother if he could still take part in the task – but the graffiti artist still doubted that he'd go through with his change of heart.

Watching from outside, he said: "I just want them to let him in now," concerned that given too much time, John James would change his mind.

However, he entered the Diary Room, and as he was putting on his crab costume Josie headed outside and told JJ, who has to wear a sumo wrestler costume as his part of the task: "I think what it is, he's come out here and seen you dressed how you are, and had a think about it."

"Possibly," he agreed. "It's part of a game. I can understand why he doesn't [want to wear it] because he thinks they're trying to get to him, which they are. But when that happens it makes me more determined."

Josie added: "I tell you what, if he has thought about it and he has had a word with himself, and gone in there and put the costume on - it just goes to show that he's a bit of a legend."

John James – dressed in his crab costume – emerged from the Diary Room grinning, as everybody cheered and burst out laughing.

Sam headed straight over and gave him a big hug. "Oh, I'm really proud of you John," praised Josie. Later on, she asked him: "What made you change your mind, love?"

"It doesn't bother me the fact that people call me [crab eyes]," he told her. "It more bothers me about the fact that people stoop so low to insult me... Andy used to cop a lot of banter at school about what he looks like, and I know he agrees with me. It's just wrong... There's no need to take the piss."
