With tonight's final drawing closer, the minister speculated that there had been some "nasty stuff" about him appearing in the media over the past 77 days.
"And also just fake stuff," Mario said. "Anyone could ring up and say 'I slept with Dave when he was 19' to get £200 out of it and how could they [the publication] prove it?"
Joking that there were probably quite a few women for whom this could be true, David confessed that he could instantly recall two or three private details that would sound "really bad" if they were uncovered.
"You don't have the opportunity to defend yourself," he said. "It's out there, people will have already made a judgement."
Anticipating that he had received a large amount of negative press in the outside world, he continued: "Somebody's been definitely working on my PR to keep me here. Ben's been pulling his finger out and if this thing with Tom Jones is right, Tom Jones has been pulling his finger out."
