'Big Brother 11' finale captivates 4m

The extended finale of Big Brother 11 was watched by 4m viewers on Tuesday night, according to the latest audience data.

Big Brother: The Final, which saw Josie crowned the winner and then immediately sent back into the house for Ultimate Big Brother, averaged 4m (17.7%) for Channel 4 between 8pm and 10.50pm. An additional 147k (0.8%) watched the programme on Channel 4 +1.

The popularity of Big Brother affected a new part of BBC drama The Deep, which sunk to 3.2m (13.6%) on BBC One from 9pm, down 570k week-on-week. However, a further 270k (1.1%) watched the episode on BBC HD.

The Deep's combined audience was just able to beat The Bill in the 9pm hour, after the police drama grabbed 3.34m (14.2%) on ITV1 and 75k (0.3%) on ITV1 HD.

New Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? appealed to 3.24m (14%) on ITV1 in the 8pm hour, but it was outperformed by Holby City, which took 4.89m (21.1%) on BBC One.

Jason Mountford and Alex Jones continued to attract viewers to The One Show,with 4.29m (22.4%) watching the magazine programme on BBC One from 7pm.

Coast appealed to 1.88m (9.4%) on BBC Two in the 7pm hour, before factual entertainment series The Great British Bake Off took 2.63m (11.3%). Treasures Of The Anglo Saxons mustered 2.02m (8.6%) for the channel in the 9pm hour, and it was followed by Grumpy Old Men, which grabbed 1.75m (8.2%).

Over on Five, Chris Barrie's Massive Speed brought in 466k (2.2%) from 7.30pm, before Great Railway Adventures took 1.06m (4.6%). The CSI: Trilogy grabbed respective audiences of 1.57m (6.7%), 1.63m (8.3%) and 1.44m (12.8%) for the channel from 9pm.

BBC One dominated primetime with 20.3% against ITV1's 14.4% (HD: 0.3%). Channel 4 came in third with 14.1% (+1: 0.6%), followed by BBC Two with 9.1% and Five with 5.3%.

Elsewhere, Jedward: Let Loose launched to a modest 326k (1.4%) on ITV2 in the 9pm hour and 52k (0.3%) on timeshift.

BBC Three's Don't Tell The Bride secured the biggest multichannel audience of the night, after 776k (3.2%) tuned in from 9pm. Later on the channel, Johnny Vegas's sitcom Ideal pulled in 428k (2.5%) between 10.30pm and 11pm.
