Big Brother producer defends decision to keep Conor McIntyre

By
Big Brother's executive producer has defended the decision to allow Conor McIntyre to remain in the house after his treatment of Deana Uppal.

Conor outraged viewers by branding his fellow contestant a "stupid b**tard" and threatening to "punch" her after her poor performance in the 'Confusing Cuisine' task.

The Irish housemate later apologised for his actions and was given a warning by Big Brother, but nearly 1,000 complaints were made to Ofcom about the incident and fans have continued to call for his exit.

However, Big Brother boss Denis O'Connor has said that, although Conor's behaviour was "totally unacceptable", the team decided against ejecting him due to his rant being "out of character".

"We are confident that we dealt with Conor in the appropriate way in terms of the systems that we have in place within the show," O'Connor explained.

"He said something that was totally unacceptable and he was taken into the Diary Room and reminded strongly about his use of language, which he took on board and accepted.

"Because this was out of character for any behaviour he'd had prior to that it was felt that that was enough of a response but we're continuing to monitor his behaviour and all the housemates' behaviour in the house."

Deana faces eviction from the Big Brother house tonight (June 29) after being nominated for the public vote against Lydia Louisa.
