A brief moment of boredom among the housemates sparked off a chicken war this afternoon. "Let's have chicken races," Elizabeth suggested to enthusiastic cheers.
Whooping by the wire enclosure, the spectators watched their carefully selected hens circle the coop. Brian was most amused by the sudden activity and roared words of encouragement to his chosen chuck, Xena.
As Xena suddenly turned on one of her fellow hens and began pecking, Brian shouted excitedly: "Look, she's back again for more. Get her, get her!"
The bemused cockerel looked on, deciding to not join in with the bickering hens. "That cock, I think he's sensitive like me," announced Brian.
Suddenly Helen shouted. "That's me!" she cried, pointing to her namesake hen who was being mounted by the previously uninterested male. "Another cock's after me!"
Seconds later the cockerel shook his plumage and wandered off. "He was shagging her," Brian exclaimed, and noting the brief contact added: "He has premature ejaculation."
It may have been easy amusement for the housemates but it kept them busy for at least five minutes and none of the chickens seemed to mind the sudden attention.
