Decision supported

Published Wednesday, May 29 2002, 21:00 BST | By Neil Wilkes

The housemates are reacting to Sunita's shocking news, as the discontented contestant told them about her reasons for leaving the House.

After just five full days, the trainee barrister announced her resolution to walk in the Diary Room early in the evening.

And with the group preoccupied with a discussion about mobile phone tariffs, Sunita dropped her bombshell.

"I've asked to leave," Sunita succinctly announced, adding that she'll depart tomorrow.

Understandably, the reaction was one of stunned silence, although all the housemates seemed wholly sympathetic to their housemate's situation.

"Oh Sunita don't," was young Jade's astonished response.

And then as the 25-year-old explained her thinking, Jade asked why she hadn't been told, claiming: "I would have made you stay!"

PJ - who shortly after fell asleep on the sofa - simply asked Sunita if she was "alright", while Lynne told the visibly emotional contestant not to "feel bad".

Soon after the group split in two, with Sunita moving into the boys' bedroom where Alex, Lee and Jonny were dissecting the news."It's not a spur of a moment decision [and] it's not a reflection on anyone in here," she reassured them before apologising.

"There's nothing to be sorry about," reassured fireman Jonny.Alex was equally understanding, although did try his best to reverse the decision by maintaining: "I do notice sometimes you don't take part in things - why not give it a try?"

But seeing Sunita's mind was made up, the Essex boy adopted a more tactile approach by suggesting, "a big group hug". His suggestion was gleefully taken up by the group.

And with the news still sinking in, expect this topic to occupy the housemates' thoughts until Sunita finally steps out of the House.
