The natural assumption from most of the housemates had been that Sam was a woman, one that he initially failed to correct.
Having pulled aside Richard in the bathroom, Sam decided to come clean. "Well technically.." he began - but Richard already knew what was coming. "I know honey.. gotcha," he said with a smile.
"I'm just so scared," Sam explained. "I didn't know whether to tell people or not."
Richard assured Sam that he had nothing to worry about, noting: "The guys in this house are really really cool and... they're not going to have a problem with it at all."
Minutes later Sam made an announcement to the group as they gathered in the bedroom. "I'm actually a guy," he said. "I was totally paranoid and I didn't know whether to tell people or not."
Most housemates appeared to be unfazed by the news, all assuring Sam that he had nothing to worry about.
Later Pete admitted that had already clocked Sam as a man before he had cleared up the confusion. "As did I," added Richard. "I've been around enough to know."
Analysing the group reaction, he continued: "George is so conservative, he doesn't know how to handle it... a woman with a penis in the house."
