Executive producer Phil Edgar-Jones said he was inspired by other versions of the show from around the world.
He revealed that Big Brother chiefs from different countries gather at an annual convention to exchange ideas.
He explained: "The Belgians are the maddest. They sent tarantulas into the house and have shot darts into housemates’ bottoms."
