Best Of CBB: Police seize Pete's "gorilla fur" coat

Pete Burns caused controversy inside and outside the house with his coat made from gorilla fur. The '80s popstar eventually had the clothing confiscated following viewer complaints about the item's illegality. Never one to give up without a fight, Burns later declared: "I hope there's a huge demand for gorilla fur coats [now]. Every one I ever see, I'll buy."

Police seized Pete's controversial gorilla fur coat yesterday after complaints from viewers.

Officers from the Hertfordshire Constabulary collected the coat, which Pete claimed was made from an endangered species of gorilla, from producers yesterday and will now send it to be "tested". Last week a government minister warned that Pete could face jail if the coat was found to be made of gorilla skin.

"Following a number of complaints from members of the public regarding a coat taken into the Big Brother house by Pete Burns, the coat in question has been handed across to police officers from Herts Constabulary," said a police spokesperson.

A spokeswoman for C4 added that Pete had been made "aware of the situation".
