The show's executives argued that the success of ITV's recent I'm A Celebrity... series proved that there is still an "appetite" for seeing famous people in "amusing situations" and "silly costumes".
"We're trying to make it a funny few weeks," said Edgar-Jones. "The task producers are asked to come up with daft silly things for celebrities to do. Whether or not they will always be funny we don't know.
"There might be romance, there might be conflict, there might be all the usual stuff we can't control. We have designed on paper some amusing tasks with some particularly funny costumes."
Powers added: "We may even electrocute some celebrities!"
When asked whether they could reveal any of this year's tasks, she said: "We're trying to explore the role of celebrity. A lot of the tasks will be about life as a celebrity."
