Shilpa: 'BB passed its expiry date'

Rex Features

Celebrity Big Brother's Shilpa Shetty has spoken out about the demise of the Channel 4 reality show.

The broadcaster confirmed yesterday that next year's eleventh series would the last to air on the channel.

Shetty, who triumphed in the 2007 celebrity edition, praised the Endemol production for "carving a niche", but argued that the format had become boring.

"I think every show has a shelf life and you can't go on forever," she told DS. "It's like a pickle, it comes with an expiry date.

"I think Celebrity Big Brother and Big Brother has done really well in this country for a long time, but there is always going to be a boredom that sets in after a point. People will have already seen it all and done it."

She added: "At the same time, I think Big Brother has been a real success at carving a niche for itself and it's helped create many, many stars, so we should also remember that."

The Bollywood actress, who is currently in the UK promoting her new Gourmet Creations food brand, will appear on Good Food cookery show Market Kitchen on September 7 at 7pm.
