Wednesday night's double bill of Celebrity Big Brother performed well for Channel 4, according to early viewing figures.

The first visit, which saw Ivana Trump evicted from house, drew 3.34m (13.1%) during the 9pm hour, with a further 336k (1.8%) tuning in on timeshift.

Davina McCall's entry then pulled in 2.86m (20.8%) at 11pm. Channel 4+1 added an extra 124k (1.7%) at midnight.

Sandwiched between the two trips was Desperate Housewives, which returned to 2.41m (12.6%). Earlier, Relocation, Relocation grabbed 2.64m (10.6%) during the 8pm hour.

Over on BBC One, Holby City took 4.29m (17.2%) at 8pm, then the audience dropped to 3.36m (13.2%) during the 9pm screening of Crimewatch.

BBC Two's Natural World had 1.21m (4.8%) at 8pm, then Tsunami: Five Years On put in 1.12m (4.4%) at 9pm.

Midsomer Murders averaged 5.78m (23%) for ITV1 between 8pm and 10pm, making it the most-watched programme during primetime.

Secrets of Egypt: Valley of the Kings and NCIS managed 861k (3.5%) and 1.63m (6.4%) for Five at 8pm and 9pm respectively.

Overall, ITV1 came top during primetime with an average share of 21.7% to BBC One's 17.8%. Channel 4 was third with 10% (+1: 1%), followed by BBC Two with 4.7% and Five's 3.9%.

Over on the multichannel stations, American Idol put in 684k (2.8%) for ITV2 at 8pm, and Big Brother's Big Mouth drew 576k (7%) for E4 at 11.25pm.
