'Geordie Shore' spinoff 'Mersey Shore' coming to MTV?

MTV has commissioned a Geordie Shore spinoff based in Liverpool, according to tabloid reports.

The broadcaster has achieved record-breaking ratings with the Newcastle-based reality show, which launched last month.

Casting is underway for Mersey Shore, according to The Sun, with a source claiming that the sister show will be equally "explosive" as the North-East version.

Former X Factor boyband star Anthony Hannah, who was a member of Eton Road, is among the rumoured cast for the new series.

Ex-Hollyoaks actress Candy McCulloch and Wayne Rooney's cousins Natalie and Stephen are also allegedly in the running to appear on the show.

MTV has rejected criticism of Geordie Shore from local MPs, who have accused the show of bordering on the "pornographic". Kerry Taylor, senior vice president and director of television at MTV, described the programme to Digital Spy as a "snapshot of life".

Geordie Shore continues on Tuesday night at 10pm on MTV.
