The 26-year-old announced his departure on Twitter, explaining that he hopes to "explore new avenues" outside of the MTV programme.
"Its true,I have decided to leave GS," he wrote. "Its been great& Iv made some life long friends but Iv decided to explore new avenues."
He later teased: "#gregstyle will live on! And u will all see me bk on tv very soon!!"
As Geordie Shore fans rushed to bid him farewell, Lake added: "It means so much u wudnt believe the support is amazing...The love I'm gettin is unreal!! Wish I cud hug u all!!!! Cannt explain how much I love u lot #beingsoppy."
Lake made his final Geordie Shore appearance in a two-part Magaluf Madness special that aired in August.
The second series of Geordie Shore will premiere on MTV early in 2012.
