The Radio 1 DJ and Top of the Pops host has been linked to the job since providing the voiceover for the music reality show's first teaser trailers.
Little Britain star David Walliams is the only other star who has been linked to the presenting role.
"It's news to me, but if they want to give me the job I'll definitely take it. But I haven't heard anything. I'm pretty sure," he told Digital Spy at the Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women of the Year Awards..
However, Yates did confess that he was a huge fan of the show since watching the US NBC version: "When I was in LA, I was in my hotel, I whacked on the telly and it was properly gripping. The balance of the judges was amazing.
"When the judges actually got up and sang with the contestants, I was like, 'Holy s**t' - this could be amazing. In the UK I think it could be a pretty awesome show because we've not seen anything like that in a while."
Jessie J is the only star currently confirmed for The Voice. Take That's Mark Owen, Sir Tom Jones, Mary J Blige and Will Young have also been linked to judges roles.
The Voice will launch on BBC One in spring 2012.
