The Voice UK coaches have turned down a West End star at the blind auditions, it has been revealed.

Kerry Ellis, who has performed in West End musicals My Fair Lady and Wicked, was snubbed by all four judges at the BBC talent show's auditions.

According to the Daily Star, there was "genuine gasps" that Tom Jones, will.i.am, Danny O'Donoghue and Jessie J opted not to select Ellis for a spot in the competition.

Ellis famously filled in for Martine McCutcheon in My Fair Lady, when the ex-EastEnders actress fell ill.

She also recorded a track with Queen's Brian May and landed a role in the musical We Will Rock You after striking up a friendship with the guitarist.

Other performances on her CV include turns at the Royal Variety Show and the Queen's Golden Jubilee Concert.

The Voice UK will air in March on BBC One.
