O'Donoghue, 31, insists that people should "not mistake youth for inexperience" given his success with The Script.
"Everything I've worked for in the last 15 years has put me in a position where I don't feel scared," he told Look magazine.
"Tom was 40 when I was born and I remind him of that at every opportunity. Then he reminds me of the 40 million more records he's sold!"
O'Donoghue and Jones are battling it out for the winning Voice singer.
Rival Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden joked that 71-year-old Jones may not be alive for long.
