Four eliminations on the BBC One singing contest were seen by 6.20m (26.4%) at 7.30pm, beating Emmerdale's 5.54m (23.2%) at the same time.
The Yorkshire soap, which hasn't aired on a Sunday evening since 2008, pulled in an extra 434k on ITV1 +1. A Lewis repeat interested 4.63m (19.2%) from 8pm (+1: 322k).
BBC One's Planet Earth Live logged 4.87m (19.9%) until 9pm, then a repeat of 2011 drama series Death in Paradise took 2.79m (11.8%). The final Match of the Day of the season scored 4.06m (31.2%) from 10.30pm.
Meanwhile, Coast enthralled 2.9m (12.4%) on BBC Two, prior to which 1.92m (7.9%) watched Indian Ocean with Simon Reeve at 8pm. The Lost World of the Seventies had 1.1m (6%) from 10pm.
Channel 4's screening of The Twilight Saga: New Moon attracted 1.51m (6.5%) from 8pm (+1: 319k), while Peter Andre's Celebrity Deal or No Deal game entertained 1.04m (4.5%) in the 7pm hour.
Elsewhere, Once Upon a Time held up well for Channel 5 with 1.22m (5%) at 8pm (+1: 126k), then the audience rose to 1.56m (6.6%) for World's Scariest Animal Attacks.
Overall, BBC One topped primetime with 21.4%, beating ITV1's 17.4% (+1: 1.2%). BBC Two claimed third place with 7.4%, ahead of Channel 4's 5.6% (+1: 1.1%), and Channel 5's 4.5% (+1: 0.3%).
The Only Way Is Essex managed 937k (4.8%) at 10pm (+1: 150k) on ITV2. The channel also captured high audiences for repeats of Benidorm (760k/3.2%), Britain's Got Talent (648k/3.8%) and Britain's Got More Talent (634k/2.6%) earlier in the evening.
