The Voice UK tour has been axed in its entirety due to poor ticket sales.

It was confirmed earlier today that five of the 11 scheduled dates this September had been scrapped, but now the complete nationwide jaunt has been called off.

A spokesperson confirmed to Digital Spy: "Unfortunately, The Voice UK Live has been cancelled due to lack of ticket sales - customers are advised to contact their point of purchase for ticket refunds."

The final eight contestants of The Voice UK were scheduled to appear on the tour, which was due to visit London's O2 Arena and major cities including Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Cardiff.

It was reported last week that the tour hadn't sold out a single venue.

Further embarrassment hit The Voice recently when its first winner Leanne Mitchell failed to crack the Top 40 with her cover of 'Run To You'.

However, the series did celebrate being named the BBC's biggest entertainment launch in a decade, with average ratings higher than the debut series of The X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing and I'm a Celebrity.
