The housemate's former band The Ordinary Boys were named after a track on the ex-Smiths frontman's debut solo album Viva Hate.
Speaking to Vanessa and Chantelle in the kitchen, Preston was asked by Vanessa about using his surname and he responded: "I was really young and I didn't have a clue about what was cool and not cool.
"I just wanted to be like Morrissey. I've never come clean before - it's not something to be particularly proud of!"
Chantelle noted that while Preston's family call him Sam, she has always called him Preston. Vanessa suggested that you always call someone what you were introduced to them as.
Morrissey recently attracted criticism for suggesting that the Chinese people are a "subspecies" for their treatment of animals.
