Earlier at 7.30pm, the programme managed 2.44m (10.8%) when it was pitted against Barbara Windsor's final scenes as Peggy Mitchell on EastEnders, which was seen by nearly 9m.
Channel 4's commemoration of Big Brother took place all night: Dermot's Last Supper appealed to 2.99m (12.9%) at 9.30pm, then Davina's Big Send-Off had 3.22m (15.8%) at 10pm. Later at 11.30pm, an 8 Out Of 10 Cats special amused 1.19m (14.1%), winning its timeslot.
Elsewhere, Paul O'Grady Live launched to 3.35m (14.5%) for ITV1, beaten by the return of New Tricks which averaged a hefty 7.11m (30.7%) for BBC One. Earlier on both networks, The One Show held 3.88m (20.9%) at 7pm, and Cheetah Kingdom interested 2.45m (10.8%) at 8pm.
Mastermind and Gardener's World notched up respective audiences of 1.95m (8.5%) and 2.1m (8.8%) for BBC Two at 8pm and 8.30pm. Digging For Britain followed with 1.17m (5.1%), and Roger and Val Have Just Got In ended with 992k (4.9%).
Over on Five, Police Interceptors logged 1.06m (4.6%) at 8pm, after which 734k (3.2%) caught a repeat of The Mentalist, and Law & Order: SVU fetched 951k (5%) at 10pm.
Overall, BBC One reigned victorious in primetime with 25.6%, beating ITV1's 18.5% (HD: 0.6%). Channel 4 was third with 11.9% (+1: 0.7%), BBC Two followed with 5.9% and Five was last with 3.8%.
