Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack winner John Loughton has quit as chairman of the Scottish Youth Parliament.

The 20-year-old, who triumphed in the Channel 4 spinoff in January, announced that he has left the post with immediate effect.

The Scotsman quotes him as saying: "After being elected and serving as chair for a year now, I feel it is the right time for me personally to move on.

"Now is a great time for the youth of Scotland."
