The reality TV star posed with a placard calling for the Scottish Government to ban snares, backing a campaign organised by Advocates For Animals and the League Against Cruel Sports.
He is the 5,000th person to sign a petition supporting the ban.
Advocates For Animals campaigner Joanne Sim said: "We are delighted that John wishes to support our campaign to achieve a ban on snares.
"Snares are cruel and indiscriminate traps that should have no place in a modern Scotland."
In a letter to the Scottish Government Minister for Environment, Loughton said: "I'm writing to ask you to ban the manufacture, sale and use of snares in Scotland.
"The practice of snaring is primitive and cruel and surely no human interest can justify the suffering which these traps inflict on animals, both wild and domesticated.
"No civilised country should tolerate the capture of protected species, farmed animals and pets in these indiscriminate devices."
