The show, airing as part of ABC's Fall lineup, is a faux documentary following the lives of three different American family units. It is created and executive produced by Fraiser writers Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd.
"Modern Family is the funniest American comedy in years, with a real British sensibility," said Sarah Wright, head of acquisitions at Sky1. "I'm delighted to have acquired the show as we herald a new era of original comedy on Sky1HD."
The series will air on Sky1 from October following a late September premiere on ABC.
Modern Family is Sky1's first pickup from this year's LA Screenings.
