Downton Abbey has been named the 'Best Drama' of 2011 by Digital Spy readers.

Julian Fellowes's period drama, which will air a festive special on Christmas Day, topped the end of year poll.

Doctor Who finished in second spot, ahead of E4's Misfits and HBO/Sky Atlantic fantasy Game of Thrones.

Miranda, Ricky Gervais's Sky1 hit An Idiot Abroad 2, Alan Carr's Chatty Man, Steve Coogan's Alan Partridge Foster's Funny series and Channel 4 sitcom Fresh Meat made the 'Best Comedy' list.

Matt Smith and Karen Gillan made it a clean sweep for Doctor Who in the 'Best TV Actor' and 'Best TV Actress' polls.

Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch, Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage, Downton Abbey's Dame Maggie Smith and Misfits' Lauren Socha were the closest to rivalling the BBC sci-fi franchise's actor and actress crowns.
