However, the actress, best known as Jenny Gifford in the classic comedy drama, admitted that she would be reluctant to play a servant.
"I want to be in Downton Abbey! But I don't want to be a maid. I want to be upstairs doing something lovely and glamorous," she told PA.
The 45-year-old joked that she would prefer to sign up for the Julian Fellowes drama in series four, rather than the third run set in the 1920s.
Ripley said: "I think the next series is set in the '20s and I do not look good in a Flapper dress, so I might have to wait for the series after that."
Downton Abbey, which stars the likes of Hugh Bonneville, Maggie Smith and Michelle Dockery, won an award for 'Best Mini-Series' at last night's Golden Globes.
