What does the future hold for 'Housewives'?

Published Tuesday, Jul 14 2009, 16:55 BST | By Dan French | 8 comments
In the not-too-distant future, Desperate Housewives will be making a welcome return to our screens for its sixth season.

Over the last five years, Wisteria Lane has played host to more than its fair share of mad murderers, adulterous affairs and unplanned pregnancies.

Characters have come and gone (often in a body bag), but the women at the forefront of the show have remained safe - at least until last season, when Edie Britt met her maker after uncovering the truth about deranged husband Dave.

With recent confirmation that Housewives will continue until at least its ninth season in 2013, what does creator Marc Cherry have in store next? Tube Talk rounds up the latest speculation!

The Scavo troops:
Baby-making machine Lynette Scavo learned she was pregnant for the fourth time at the end of the last season. Felicity Huffman recently joked to TV Guide: "The Scavos aren't stopping until we can field an entire softball team!" However, creator Marc Cherry previously hinted that he wanted to run a baby death storyline. Could Lynette's babies be in danger post-birth? "I could never do that," Cherry said. "The network would never let me. [But] on TV you can always have a miscarriage..."

The Hodge-Van De Kamp household:
Bree and Orson will be experiencing some serious marital problems, namely in the form of Susan Mayer's ex, Karl. Is Bree about to have a full-blown affair? Kyle MacLachlan - aka Orson - told us: "It's possible, yeah. I they have the idea that maybe she gets swept up in his bad boy shenanigans. So in some ways, Orson's going to have to be the white Knight and come in and rescue her."

The Solises:
It's gone fairly quiet on the Solis-front lately, but expect that to change as Carlos's niece Ana continues to wreak havoc for the family. Since actress Maiara Walsh has been made a series regular, it's safe to assume more clashes with glamorous Gabby! As for potential love interests, there's no shortage of men to pick from: the Scavo twins, newcomer Dominic, one of the housewives' husbands...

The Susan-Mike-Katherine saga:
According to Zap2It, the season six premiere will feature a Susan Mayer wedding. Could it be a flashback, meaning she was the mystery bride at the end of last season? Or did Mike marry Katherine, putting Susan on rebound and into the arms of another man? Kyle MacLachlan has his own theory: "Wouldn't it be great if [Mike married] someone completely different? That would be cool - someone he was having on the side! Bree's sister?"

The newcomers:
The Vitales - Angie, Nick and Dominic - will be shaking things up when they make the move to suburban Wisteria Lane from the hustle and bustle of NYC. Sexy 19-year old Dominic will apparently make a move on one of the younger residents, while his father, Nick, is also said to have a bit of a roaming eye. Can the Edie-like Angie (Drea De Matteo) keep her brood under control?

The sixth season of Desperate Housewives kicks off on Sunday, September 27 in the US.

Season 5 wasn't all what it cracked up to be. The mystery and most of the storyline were too predictable. I think Season 6 will be a comeback because we have a lot more new characters to enjoy.

I miss Edie, she was my favourite. I wonder if she'll be back in any flashbacks or anything like that. :(
