The BBC mini-series, which stars Matthew Macfadyen, Adam Rothenberg and Jerome Flynn, is set in Whitechapel in London's East End in 1889, six months after the infamous Jack the Ripper murders.

The second episode centres on the death of a toy maker, who is beaten to death for a mysterious brass box and the coins in his pocket.
Matthew Macfadyen's Inspector Edmund Reid is led into the world of child gangs as a Whitechapel Vigilance Committee offer him a 14-year-old culprit (Giacomo Mancini), who will not deny the charges.

The drama, which will run for eight episodes, features Flynn as police muscle Detective Sergeant Bennett Drake and Rothenberg as US Army surgeon and one-time Pinkerton detective Captain Homer Jackson.
MyAnna Buring and Charlene McKenna also star as brothel workers madam Long Susan and Rose Erskine.

Joe Gilgun guest stars in episode two as brutal child gang master Carmichael.
Ripper Street is written by Richard Warlow, Julie Rutterford, Declan Croghan and Toby Finlay and directed by Andy Wilson, Colm McCarthy and Tom Shankland.
Ripper Street's second episode 'In My Protection' airs on Sunday (January 6) at 9pm on BBC One.
The drama will air in the US as part of BBC America's 'Dramaville', starting on January 19.
