The show, hosted by Davina McCall and Alex Brooker, saw a number of famous faces taking part in games such as bobsleigh, skating and skiing, with Joe McElderry named the eventual winner.

The series - filmed in Austria - was plagued with injuries, as stars including Sir Steve Redgrave, Marcus Brigstocke, Melinda Messenger and Henry Conway were forced to pull out of the competition.

However, Hunt has now explained that she believes the show was "the first time [Channel 4 has] had a big pre-watershed hit for quite a long time".

"It's hard to think what is our pre-watershed tone of voice," she said. "There is a gravitational pull at [Channel] 4 towards the edgy, the difficult and the rude. To have found a show that could serve a family audience and get the figures it did was really important."

The Jump was recently in the news as contestant Amy Childs was forced to deny that she has embarked upon a romantic relationship with fellow competitor Darren Gough.
