S01E05
In Edinburgh 1886 Dr Jekyll meets the author Robert Louis Stevenson to discuss his latest novel, with the author revealing that he knows the truth about the potion - the only other person. He passes a not to Jekyll that states that there is no potion - it is ‘the girl’ who is responsible. This refers to Jekyll’s maid - who is identical to the Claire of the present day.

Back in the Institute, the box is opened and Hyde emerges and claims to have devoured Tom’s mind. Strangely, Claire asks him questions that only Tom could answer, but Hyde is able to do so. He then discovers the ability to zap back in time to memories not only of Tom, but of his ancestors. This takes him back to 1886 where he discovers the Claire lookalike and the note from Stevenson. He now knows the secret, one which the Institute are totally unaware of - and seemingly Claire too.

Claire tries to encourage Tom to return, learning from Katherine that his presence would make the lights start to flicker in the room. The Institute pander to Hyde’s requests after he breaks free from his shackles - and leave him alone with Claire and then bring Tom’s children into the room for him to do what he pleases. Peter - the children’s godfather - cuts the feed to the CCTV as he doesn’t wish to witness the devouring that is expected to take place.

However, Hyde changes tack once the cameras are off and promises to help Claire and her kids escape. Soon though, Claire and the children are captured and taken away in a helicopter, but Hyde shows his immense power by draining the entire city of electricity. “We are coming…” he prophetically states…
