The episode started with a healthy dose of bathos as the threat of military mercenary Culver and his men was thwarted in seconds by Hyde. Soon though, the pace began to lag which further added to the feeling that there was too little in the way of narrative to stretch over six episodes. In addition, Gina Bellman continued to be unconvincing when in distress.
At times though, the denouement clicked into place with some much needed plot twists that perhaps came too late to salvage the series. The revelations that Claire was cloned and Tom's mother was the real monster were genuinely surprising and thankfully free of the signposting that can often blight the genre.
Visually, several scenes stood out in terms of their lighting, mood and tone. These were the gaseous death of Peter, the emergence of the sickly Tom/Hyde clones and the advance of Hyde in a hail of bullets. It's just a shame that the series didn't hit the target as much as Colonel Hart and his henchmen...
