Preview: Sarah Jane's clown terror

Tonight on The Sarah Jane Adventures (Tube Talk works at CBBC pace, naturally) we begin our second story, 'The Day Of The Clown'.

Corrie star and "all-round funnyman" Bradley Walsh guests as the mysterious Elijah Spellman (also known as Oddbob The Clown, also known as The ***d ****r).

Elijah/Oddbob/****r holds the key to a string of seemingly random child abductions taking place at the local school.

The disappearances coincide with the arrival of a new family, The Chandras. Feisty schoolgirl Rani (Anjli Mohindra) is caught up in proceedings after Oddbob takes a shine to her. Before too long is inducted to the group, Matrix-style, as the new third sidekick (Maria who?).

Her father Haresh (Ace Bhatti, last seen getting cosy with Billie Piper on Call Girl) is the school's new, strict headmaster and her mother Gita (Mina Anwar, last seen chatting up James Dreyfus on The Thin Blue Line) is a neurotic, typically oblivious parental figure.

Three other things to look out for in this story:

1. Two email addresses in the opening few minutes. I wonder what happens if you try to email them...
2. The return of Floella Benjamin as Professor Rivers of the Pharos Institute.
3. Stuck on the identity of Bradley Walsh's third character? The events of 1284 in a small German town may provide a clue!

I saw a bit of this by accident and I was suprised that it was even more rubbish than I imagined. I can't understand how serious television journalists cover this show.

Having watched this show today, I swear even I was a bit jittery. Some great stuff in there, Bradley Walsh was good and I liked Rani. She'll never be Maria though. As for why they keep writing, I assume that it's because it's a well thought out addition to Children's TV and the fact that it draws a reasonably sizeable audience of adults would justify it.

Why do you keep writing about this kids show? There is so much other good stuff that you could be writing about. Stop inflicting your Dr Who obsession on us!

He's the pied piper....
