Show producers decided to introduce a "darker" tone for series three, which launched on ITV1 last month.
Speaking to Celebs On Sunday magazine, Miller has now claimed that the drama is "bigger and better" as a result of the shift in storylines.
He added: "The last series was in danger of becoming Casualty with dinosaurs, but this time there is much more intrigue."
The actor also insisted that he is not disappointed when his alter-ego James Lester gets left behind in the office while the other characters fight dinosaurs.
"Let's be honest, it's fighting CGI," he explained. "I'm just pleased to be giving everyone else bollockings."
Primeval continues on Saturday at 6.55pm on ITV1.
