The programme's franchise is already expected to undergo significant expansion following the news that a movie version is being produced by Warner Bros.
Jonathan Drake and Tim Haines, of Primeval's production company Impossible Pictures, have now reportedly started making plans for a second new project which would take the show's mythology beyond the UK - possibly for a new US-based series.
Primeval sees a team of experts battling prehistoric and futuristic creatures who reach modern-day Britain through time portals known as "anomalies".
The original version of the show currently airs in the US on BBC America.
