Classic Moments: Caroline batters Rex ('Primeval')

The British are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers, although that same affection may not extend to lizards given the behaviour witnessed in an episode of Primeval.

The Context

An attractive young woman called Caroline had wormed her way into becoming Connor's girlfriend. It emerged that she was being paid to do so by the evil Oliver Leek, although Connor and the rest of the team were oblivious to this. Caroline had already texted a picture of Abby's pet lizard Rex - who was rescued from an anomaly - to Leek. She subsequently placed the heat-needing creature in the fridge and almost killed it, although she denied any knowledge of this cruel act. Once Rex had recovered, she later found herself alone in Abby's flat with the cute creature and received a text from Connor telling her that their relationship was at an end. She was not pleased. Guess who bore the brunt of her fury?

The Moment

Caroline's wrath involved her chasing the chirping Rex around the flat. The lizard managed to evade several plates that were thrown at him, however when Caroline laid her hands on a tennis racket she unleashed a double-handed backhand that would make Venus Williams proud. Sadly for Rex, he was effectively the ball as he was swatted against Abby's punchbag and knocked unconscious, perhaps never to wake up.

The Aftermath

The fate of Rex was unknown for a couple of episodes, until Abby discovered him among the creatures that Leek kept captive in his research facility. By this stage, Caroline was in a similar situation to the imprisoned members of the Arc as Leek betrayed her and left her for dead with the others once she discovered the true nature of his project. Fittingly, Caroline sought to make amends for her previous brutality by finding a wounded Rex and taking him to safety.
