Primeval's shock twist revealed

Published Sunday, Apr 12 2009, 15:41 BST | By Neil Wilkes | 60 comments
Understandably everyone has been gabbing on about 'Planet of the Dead' since last night so rather unfortunately, Primeval's best episode of the series to date has been somewhat overlooked.

In the episode - half of which aired against Doctor Who - there was a shock twist, which I won't mention explicitly here in case some of you haven't got round to seeing it yet.

What do you think of the twist? Will the show ever be the same again? Add your comments to this entry below!

Absolutely loved Primeval. Since losing Cutter, Stephen and Claudia (Jenny) it has become boring and trivial. Absolutely hate the huge galumpy playing the lead part..... Loathe Primeaval now. Will just watch Series 1 and 2 and try my best to forget series 3.

Leaving aside all preferences for Cutter, Steven, Danny et al, can the producers please recognise that the hottest and most entertaining character in the whole damn programme is Sir James Lester and yet they restrict him to literally a few minutes each episode, ideed they even left him out of the daft episode with the dragon hunting knight.

Does anyone know what helen is doing and does anyone know if stephen is comin bak? x

It won't be the same without Douglas Henshall acting out Nick. I heard he went off to a different T.V show called 'Collision' But if they bring him back, I won't complain Loving Danny at the moment Soooooo funny!!!!!! xxxxx

I watched Primeval Series 3 episode 3 on Saturday and being honest I do not like Doctor Who, Primeval will always be my favourite. The shock twist this series, has been, well, shocking! But very good and this twist will take the show in a completley different direction which should hopefully lead onto a Series 4. I thought the acting in Series 3 episode 3 from Douglas Henshall, Andrew-Lee Potts, Hannah Spearritt and the rest of the cast was excellent. I hope not to many people will take the shock twist to heart because with Jason Flemyng joining as Danny Quinn, we shouldn't get bored. I thought the acting from Juiliet Aubrey, who plays Helen, was excellent, and I thought her motives for the future were shocking. I hope Primeval can continue for as long as possible, but right now I'm looking forward to the rest of Primeval Series 3, the best show in the world!!!

I don't think he is dead they just can't kill him off, i have seen spoilers and pictures and i can't wait to the see the next few episodes it looks great.

Excellant episode and i think that cutter actually DID die and if he returns it's going to be due to timeline alterations (like how claudia became jenny)

I will miss Cutter, he seemed to be the intelligent side of Primeval for adults as opposed to the 'youth' element that is there for the teens. I don't know how they will manage to find a replacement for his character with suitable stature.
Mike, on April 15th, 2009
he's not dead. there is no way ITV would kill off the main reason women watch the show a couple episodes into the new season. They're just doing this to boost ratings.

Doctor Who was okay, but in my opionion this episode of Primeval was far better. It would seem that the producers of Primeval have been watching Heroes and have tried to inject more "shock" elements by ending on a dramatic moment. Shock the viewer and leave them wanting more .... surely that is what escapist fantasy type television like this should excel at. And this 3rd series of Primeval is doing that very well so far. As for all those people who say Primeval is rubbish - what sad pathetic boring little lives you must be living if you can't recognise when a team of people come together to try to create some escapist fun entertainment - which has the emphasis on "fun". Go back to your "Britain Wants Talent" and "X factor" crap, and who cares "if Ken Barlow is going to get his kit off in the barge with Martha" soapland rubbish..... it is this ever-improving fantasy type series that we need to relieve the boredom of what passes for most of the televisual so-called entertainment we have to suffer these days. Roll on Primeval..... love the principal characters, love the relentless pacing of the series; its getting better and better. Congratulations to everyone involved in the show. (And personally, I suspect Cutter will come back as yet another clone, but one which will have all his original personality and traits restored somehow).

Excellent - the can't act block of wood has gone (permanently PLEASE). Now we might be able to have a decent show instead of an OK one. Bye Cutter, you won't be missed (by me anyhow).

As a fan of Doctor Who and Primeval i usually prefer doctor who but this time primeval came tops. It was funny, tragic, action packed and ben millers character james lester got a big part hurrah!
Vickie, Bedford, on April 14th, 2009
I didn't see it coming whatsoever!! But, from what he said I have a feeling it's not the last we've seen of him and it might've actually been the clone!! I was in tears though, I love him!!!! BRING HIM BACK!!!
A, UK, on April 14th, 2009
The episode of Doctor Who was not a very good episode, it was a bit of a copy of Primeval. You had a wormhole (anomaly), people going through it and getting stuck, a some sort of creature on the other side. Primeval was far better. I can't believe Helen shot Cutter, it was so sad. The show will never be the same. Bring back Stephen and Cutter.
Fogmeister, Torquay, on April 14th, 2009
Just to address the clone argument - since when is there a limit to their number. They are clones. Why, therefore, is evryone seemingly convinced that because we saw one die that the Cutter who was shot is the genuine article. Although it seems clear that Douglas Henshall is leaving this season, rumours regarding his exit seem to suggest episode 10 is the actual departure point and there is to be a quite long "unhurried" story arc surrounding his departure. Oh, and much as I believe everyone is entitled to a subjective opinion and so am loathe to criticise the views of others in any way - Daniel from Birmingham, to sign in and dismiss an entire series after watching only ten minutes of the end of a single episode because it is "about dinosaurs so if someones going to die they should be killed by them in my opinion and not some strange women with a gun saying she can't let him live" is one of the most moronic criticisms I have ever read in my entire time on the internet. If you are going to criticise writing, at least do a spell check and make sure that you have a basic grasp of grammar, by the way. Anyway, for what it is worth my bet is it was a clone - just not the same one.
Mike, Belfast, on April 14th, 2009
hannah, his clone blew up!
