'Primeval' creator talks new series, movie

Hands up who still has a smile on their face following Primeval's recent resurrection? As it goes, you're not alone: someone else excited by the prospect of a further two series (not to mention a US version and a movie) is creator Adrian Hodges.

Recently, Tube Talk caught up with the man himself to find out what we could about the Primeval franchise. In short, Hodges has planned the storylines for the 13-episode fourth/fifth season and promises to address that season three cliffhanger straight away - but it might not leave all fans happy..

The US spinoff is apparently "very much on the agenda" and details of the movie are "very nearly finalised". Of course, you could always hit 'play' below to find out more!

Are you excited about the new series of Primeval? What do you think about plans for a US spinoff and movie? Add your comments to this entry below!

teegan colcomb, I agree with you. I was gutted when Danny left again, I've seen log piles more charismatic than Matt. It's not the show I used to enjoy, as the new 'arcs' are actually quite dull. I've made my mind up that if Abby, Connor or Danny die in series 5 I will stop watching.

So more new 'arcs' with all the old 'arcs' ignored. These shows never explain anything. Its like buying a book with the last chapter missing, but you cant get your money back!

:O double exitedness :D its sad some of the cast is leaving as many have already, but i can't wait for it to come back! Not sure about a movie and US version, somehow the original is always better.. :\

I am definitely looking forward to Season 4! Let's hope the new characters don't mess up the show's chemistry too much. We've only had 3 seasons so far and already 80% of the cast has been changed. Danny is a great substitute for Cutter but rumor is, he'll be only present in 3 more episodes (why??). One thing I really don't get about the British television is how short the seasons are. Why is it so hard to make a show with more than 10 episodes in a season? Do the writers run out of ideas? With longer seasons there could be more character development and more interesting twists and turns in the storyline. It also seems that the actors would be less likely to abandon the show (as it happened after every season) if they were kept busy on "Primeval".

Would love to see the movie, but have reservations. The Serenity movie based on the Fireflies series was excellent and I think this sort of handling would suit a Primeval movie. That would mean using the same core actors as well as some of the writers etc., but if they don't it may just be a movie with the same name. The U.S. spinnoff could be good but U.S. track record of re-doing hit U.K. series is not brilliant. A spinoff that does not try to replicate would work though. The main thing is keeping Primeval (UK) on the screen so it is all good.

A lot of people are complaining about cast changes and other story details. Life is change. Without change, there is no life. All good stories go through changes. If you can't enjoy the ride, then get off the bus. Primeval is returning for a final two series, which should please those of us who are fans. We are all different, with different opinions and tastes. If you ask 10 viewers of Primeval for their favorite characters and plot points, everyone will have a slightly different list. So let the writers and cast do what they are going to do, and let us, the viewers, simply enjoy the outcome. We are forgetting how to be thankful. Let's get back to that.

Thank god primeval is coming back but we have to wait for another year. Hopefully it be worth the wait. A primeval film sounds good but hard to know if it does happen. And a us version sounds good too. Sould be bigger than the british version if not as good as the british version.

I am a huge fan of this and have been catching up on a lot of episodes as I have just begun watching the show recently. I nearly fainted when I heard the show was canceled and then had a crazy personal celebration on hearing it was being revived. I hope they don't Americanize it, because I figure then it will pretty much suck. I love the cast. I also feel that if they make the show into a movie the big time studios will ruin with stupid recasting. No one wants to see George Clooney as Cutter, Micheal Cera as Connor, Natalie Portman as Abby, or Angelina Jolie as Helen. Use the great cast at hand!!!

How can one say that Adrian is great when you say yourself that his characters are boring and he was right killing them? And I personally like Capt. Ryan - and I see I am not alone - there are even groups on the internet who are only interested in those characters they killed ---

Don't make fun of Adrian Hodges, he is a fantastic creator and he is going to make the show he thinks will work. And I think he is making all of the right decisions for Series 4. Cutter, Stephen and Helen were boring characters and it was the right decision to get them killed off. Danny, Connor, Abby, Sarah, Captain Becker and Lester are the best characters, and them six people make Primeval the best show ever. And I can't think how Captain Ryan can be a huge fan favourite, he only had like seven lines to say an episode. Primeval is better as it is now, so just watch Series 4 and 5 and try to get used to the new and improved cast.

Well - once again they are going to do what they like and forget about the fans! If they are not interested in bringing back characters we like I just can't be bother --- Well I still have my DVD of series one - with Capt. Ryan - and as he won't be coming back I won't have to spend more mony to buy the new series on DVD!!!
Luke Wibberley, Derby, on November 28th, 2009
I can't wait to see Series 4! I hope Danny, Connor and Abby make it back safely though.
