Speaking to DS, the actor - who played DCI Gene Hunt in the time-travel drama - admitted that he was annoyed by the BBC's decision to reduce the money spent on production.
"I don't understand why we do this in drama," he said. "Our budget was slashed for the last series of Ashes, really reduced. I was like, 'we're not going to come back to you for more money, this is the last one'."
Glenister made the comments while promoting his new Sky1 drama Mad Dogs, which will air on the network early next year.
