'Ashes' star Hawes slams celebrity culture
Published Wednesday, Feb 20 2008, 16:02 GMT | By Ben Rawson-Jones

The former Spooks star, who plays Alex Drake in the Life On Mars spin-off, told the Radio Times: "Celebrity culture is so sad. I wish there was a way of separating those who work hard for a living from the Big Brother, paparazzi-type celebrity who makes money quickly, although I imagine it's easy to fall into that."
Hawes also claimed that the chauvinistic attitude of Ashes To Ashes character Gene Hunt is appreciated by both sexes. "Women are fed up with New Man, and possibly some men feel castrated by feminism. I'm sure a lot like being the breadwinner."
